Sometimes our crafting projects dont always work out the way we planned.  We can look at these like mistakes and toss out the project to start over or we can look at these as opportunities for embellishment.

Lets take this card for example.  I was inking up this beautiful flower using a stencil and you can see to the far right of the card some of my ink went off of the stencil.

At first I was so upset with myself, and I almost threw the card in the garbage.  But then I had an idea . . . what if inked over this smudge to hide it?

I grabbed some painters tape and ripped it to give an irregular edge to one side of the tape.  I then placed the tape so that the ink smudge was to the right of the tape.

Next, using some of the same inks that I used to create the flower, I inked in the area to the right of the painters tape.

Once I pulled the painters tape away, there was this border to the card.

It is not what I originally had planned for this card, but in the end it did turn out very nice.  If I had not shown you this full blog post you might not have ever known that there was a mistake that I was hiding under that beautiful border.

Growing up I was a huge fan of PEEPS . . . those sugar covered marshmallow bunnies that would fill my Easter basket each year.  This year I decided to create a PEEPS bunny garland using the Oly Fun fabric from Fairfield.

For this project I used the yellow, pink and light purple (orchid) Oly Fun.

I searched PEEPS online to find a bunny outline I liked, and then I printed it out at the size I wanted.  I made mine about 4 inches tall, but you can make yours bigger or smaller depending on the look you want for your finished project.

Next I traced the PEEP outlines onto the Oly Fun with a pencil.  You could also tape or pin the PEEP shape to the Oly Fun and then cut around it.

Here is my pile of PEEPS after I had them all cut out.  Since Oly Fun will not fray you dont have to finish the edges at all.  I love this feature of the fabric.  This really saved me a lot of time on this project.

Next step is attaching the bunnies to the ribbon.  I could have sewn them on, but I decided to use Aleens Fabric Fusion instead.  The Fabric Fusion holds so well and allowed me to attach the PEEPS to the ribbon without any stitching showing like there would have been if I sewed them on.

Once the Fabric Fusion dried I hung the PEEP garland in our kitchen.  These little bunnies look so adorable!

My niece needed her name on her backpack, and since I have a Brother sewing/embroidery machine can also embroider my sister asked if I could help out.   Here is a photo of the backpack.  The problem was that the backpack did have a rigid frame, so it made it hard to get into the embroidery arm of my machine.

Instead of embroidering right on the bag, I decided to make a patch that I could sew onto the bag.  I used some black Oly Fun fabric from Fairfeld for this project.  I knew that Oly Fun would be the perfect fabric to use since it is great for indoor and outdoor use.  I did not want to have to worry about snow or rain getting on this patch.  Also, this fabric will not fray so there is no worry of the edges of the patch getting messed up.

The fabric was a great texture and weight to embroider on.  I decided to embroider an oval and then put my nieces name inside the oval.  Once I finished the embroidery stitching I trimmed away the extra threads and cut around the outside of the oval, close to the stitching lines.

I secured the patch with some fabric glue in the center, just to hold it in place while I hand stitched around the outer edge.  I think that since I used the black it looks like I embroidered right on the bag and it does not look like a patch.
