Americans have heard a lot about Chinese-made smartphones over the years. Mostly the word going around was not favorable. Chinese smartphones couldn’t match the phones made in the United States or other countries like South Korean in quality or looks. But now it appears that’s all yesterday’s news. Chinese manufacturers have caught up to the rest of the world. In fact, in a 2014 poll of smartphone critics and users, two of the top five were Chinese brands.
Nine of the top Chinese smartphones for 2015 are listed below based on a number of customer blogs, industry surveys, and reported sales. Because the brand rankings varied by wide margins, the list is in no particular order of preference other than all are ranked in a cumulative top nine list.
Xiaomi - This young company’s phones are getting more popular by the day. In spite of supply problems because of increasing demand, the Xiaomi M14 model, their latest for 2015, is beautiful in looks and meets all competition in quality.
Blackview Zeta- This is an inexpensive and friendly smartphone with a great display window and nice colorful options for a very competitive price. Most importantly, the phone fits the hand nicely. Both the audio quality and camera function are good.
UMi Zero 2 – This new smartphone was launched in early September of this year and is already getting favorable reviews. Most notably,
UMi is a Chinese company aiming to market something new and innovative instead of just copying existing popular brands.
ZTE Nubia Z9 – Out of three new phones from this company, the Nubia Z9 appears to be the most compelling. It features a ‘bezel-less’ design, is made out of metal, and features a 16-megapixel OIS camera, Snapdragon 810 64-bit core and 32GB storage.
Elephone P7000 - This smartphone is from a lesser-known company in China that is trying to enter the market with compelling devices like their P7000. The metal handset is durable and looks good. The 5.5-inch 1080p display screen and 3GB RAM capacity are winners,
Meizu MXP 4 Pro - This compelling smartphone was first announced in November of 2014 and didn’t fail to deliver all it promised. The all-metal phone features a Samsung Exynos 5 Octa-Core and a 20.7-megapixel camera. It is powered by an Android 4.4 KitKat.
Huawei P8Max -This Huawei smartphone has a huge 6.8-imch display screen. It may not be for everyone’s tastes, but if you want a large, easy to read display, the one’s for you. The display is 1080p. It has 3GB of RAM and is powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 935 octa-core processor. The camera on the back is 13-megapixel.
OnePlus One – If the 2015 model One Plus One smartphone is as good as their 2014 model, then this should be another winner. Powered by a Snapdragon 850 quad-core with 3GB of RAM, it has Cyanogen software and an option for 16GB and 64GB variants.
Motorola Moto X Pro - This smartphone is essentially a Chinese version of the Nexus 6. With a large 6-inch QuadHD display and 3B RAM, 805 Snapdragon quad-core, the Moto X Pro is one of the most powerful phones on the market. Because of the large size, this is one phone you probably need to handle before making a purchase.
All in all, smartphones made by Chinese manufactures have made great strides in looks, quality, number of features, and durability. Smartphones stamped “Made in China” can now stand up to comparable phones made anywhere else in the world.
