I love the way it turned out! look at the mirror like reflection of the foil! Just perfect for the body and chrome of the car. I used the car shape from the Mickey and Friends Cricut cartridge, but any car die cut shape would work for this project.
For this project I also used the Deco Foil Peel n Stick toner sheets. For those of you who have never done a foiling project, one of the ways to use foil is to print an image from a copier/printer that uses toner and then place a sheet of foil over the top and run the whole thing through a laminator. The heat of the laminator reacts with the back of the foil, and the foil will only attach/stick where there was toner on the paper.
With the toner sheets it is using that same transfer process, but now you have a full sheet of toner paper that you can die cut images from to attach the foil onto! I placed the toner sheet on my Cricut cutting mat, just like I would any cardstock, and cut the layers I needed. I used a multi cut feature since the blade had to go through the toner sheet and the backing.
Next step, remove the toner sheet cuts from the cutting mat and get ready to add the foil. The toner sheets came with a piece of parchment paper, so I placed the layers for the body of the car onto the parchment paper, then I place a piece of foil over the top and folded the parchment paper over the top. This helped to hold all of the cuts and foil in place as I put the parchment paper through the laminator.
And when it came out it was a perfect mirror like foil surface. Here you can see the cuts on the right and the piece of foil after it was peeled off on the right.
Depending on how you look at the cut and how the light is hitting it, you can see all different colors reflecting off of it.
After I had foil added to all of the pieces I needed I started to build the card. I used black cardstock for the base, with gray for a border and for the base cut on the card.
I found a black polka dot pattern in the Simple Stories Say Cheese paper stack.
For some of the layers on the car, like the seat and the soft-top convertible roof, I wanted to be able to make the look of worn fabric. I used the Tim Holtz Kraft-Core cardstock in a golden leather color and red. This cardstock has a color on top, but the core of it is a kraft color (think of the color of a brown paper bag) so when I used a sanding tool on it the kraft color came through on the edges. It gave it a more worn and aged look.
I also used this Kraft-Core paper on the tires. When I sanded the edges of the tires it made it look as if there was some dirt from the road on the tires.
I think this card would be a great for a mans birthday or Fathers Day.
