This week I have been sharing three dinosaur cards that I created.  This is the second card . . . if you missed the first one you can click HERE.

When my son was young he loved dinosaurs, and now I have nephews who are fascinated by these same creatures.  When I saw the Dino Play Cricut cartridge on sale recently I had to purchase it.  I knew that it was filled with images that would be perfect for creating cards for my nephews.

I started off by choosing two shades of green cardstock, one teal blue and an off-white to use for the layers on three different dinosaurs that I created.  This saved me some time since I could load all of the cardstock onto my Cricut mat at once and then cut the layers for three images.

I used a double sided pattern paper for the accent paper.  The colors for the patterns on both sides are in the same color family, so I knew that either side would go with the dinosaurs.  One side had polka dots, and the other had this fun stripe pattern.

I find that when I want to make several cards if I pull out colors that work together from my cardstock stash, I can combine those same colors in various ways, and this really helps to speed up the card making process.

Today I made some cards that were so quick and easy using the Mum Stencil from Stencil 1

I used a white sheet of cardstock cut in half to create my card base.  Then I simply placed the stencil over the top and grabbed some different colors of inks . . . purples, blues and pink.

Using a sponge, I applied colors in a swirling circular motion.  You can do one quick layer, or to more and more colors to add depth.

Here you can see one side that has one color, and the other side where you can see the progression as I add more and more colors

If you remove the stencil and you feel like you need more color, just line the stencil back up and add to it.  I ended up doing two cards, and both of them look different due to the colors I used and the amount of each color I applied.

Here are the finished cards.

Now I am ready for the new year since I could add a simple sentiment of Happy Birthday or Thank you to either of these cards.

Todays card is a fun and easy swing card using a Sizzix die and Lawn Fawn stamp.

First I started with a bright yellow cardstock for the base cut.  Using my Sizzix die this was easy to make.  I love that I can just run this die through my Big Shot and it cuts the card, adds all of the creases for the folds and cuts the shape that "swings" in the center all at once.

Next it was time to embellish.  I took a smaller piece of cardstock with bright stripes on it and placed it over just a portion of the die.

After that, I cut on the crease line

Now you can see the pieces after I cut down the crease line.

I adhered the larger portion of the striped paper to the left side of the card, and added the small strip to the far right for an accent.

Then I cut three pieces of ribbon and attached them to the circular portion of the card on the inside.  To hide the ends and where the tape was, I cut a circle out of a coordinating piece of blue cardstock and centered that inside of the circle shape of the card.

I stamped Happy Birthday on it and added some dots of Viva Decor for accent.

Now lets finish the outside!  I used the same blue cardstock, but this time I added some embossed dots to the circle to give some texture.  I layered a giraffe that I cut and stamped with my Lawn Fawn stamps.  Since I cut him from a creamy yellow cardstock I simply stamped him in brown to add the details, and then colored in the spots . . . quick, easy and cute!

This is how the finish card looks when it is standing up . . . the inside view . . .

The outside view

If you changed the inside sentiment, this could also be an adorable card for the arrival of a new baby.

Sometimes you start a project with one idea in your head, and then as you work on the project it evolves into something you were not planning on.  I love these types of projects because it allows you to just work with the products and see what happens.  That is exactly what happened with this Christmas card I was making.

Supplies for this project include:
Bright green cardstock - 8 1/2" x 11" size
Bright green glitter
Tree stamp - I used the one from the Lawn Fawn Critters in the Forest stamp set
Dimensional Magic

To start off I cut the green cardstock in half and folded it in half.  This way I can make my cards 2 at a time.  When I stared off, the original plan was to just stamp the tree on the card, add some accents with the Dimensional Magic and glitter and be done with them fast . . . watch how that evolved.

After I stamped the images I noticed one card had a smudge.  I had black ink on my finger and I must have touched the card.  No worries . . . this is just going to make an opportunity for embellishment later on in the project.

Back to the tree.  The original plan was to just stamp the tree on the green paper and add Dimensional Magic and glitter for accents.  In the photo below you can see how I added the Dimensional Magic to just a few tips of the tree.

Once added the glitter I felt like it needed more color.  You will see the final look at the end of the post.  So for the next card I stamped the tree and then colored it in.  This helped the tree to pop off of the card base.

I added the Dimensional Magic to the colored tree . . .

added glitter and left it to dry

After it had dried for a while you could see the color change a little where the Dimensional Magic and glitter combination was, and you could really start to see the depth from the Dimensional Magic start to pop off the page.

Oh, and remember that smudge of black ink?  I decided to cover it with a snowflake sticker.  Add a few additional snowflake stickers and now it looks like I was planning to use the stickers all along, and not that they were there to hide a mistake.

Once I finished the card I liked the addition of the snowflakes, which were not planned for the original project, but I did not have enough stickers to do the large number of cards I wanted to make.  I guess I could have die cut more snowflakes . . . but I really did not want to do a lot of die cutting for this card.

I decided to stamp more trees on white cardstock.  Now I just had to sit a color them.  This is a nice activity to do while you are watching television.

I still wanted the look of snowflakes without the work of die cutting all of those shapes, so I embossed some white cardstock to be the background for the trees.  I used my snowflake Cuttlebug embossing folder for this.

It is so much fun to take a plain old piece of paper and emboss it.  It adds so much interest, depth and texture instantly!

Back to the trees.

Once I had them colored and cut out I added the Dimensional Magic and glitter.  Since you have to let the trees sit and dry, once you do a batch of trees you can go and work on another project, do some housework or take a nap.

Here is a tip for cleaning up the glitter.  Use a piece of cardboard that has a fold/crease in it when you glitter up your trees.  That way when you shake the excess off you can tap it into the crease and then hold that over the glitter container to funnel it all back into the container.

Thank you to my husband for taking the photo of me getting the glitter back in the container.  It is kind of hard to photograph the process when you need both hands free for cleaning up glitter!

So now you have seen all of the steps.  Now it is time to show you the finished project, and see the evolution of this card.

First the card that was the original plan . . . stamped tree, Dimensional Magic and glitter . . . and snowflakes added to hide the ink smudge.

I think we can all agree it is not the best card I have ever made.

Okay, the next step in the evolution . . . add color to the tree, and still use the snowflake stickers since I did like that addition.

This card is better, and if I was only going to make two cards I might have stopped here and been fine with it.  Since I am sending out more than two holiday cards and I did not have enough snowflake stickers we move on the the next step in the evolution of this card . . .

I did a closer photo so you can see the embossing and the glitter even better.

Now this is a card I can be proud of, and it was easy to produce several of them.  Each one is a little different since I applied the Dimensional Magic and glitter to different areas or in a different amount on each tree.

I have a co-worker that loves pigs.  She has pictures of them all over her cube.  I wanted to make her a cute little card . . . just to make her smile . . . this is what I came up with

I used the pig image found in the Create A Critter 2 Cricut cartridge.  I used my Gypsy and placed two of the same shadow cuts right next to each other, and welded them at the left side of the pigs head to turn it into a pig shaped card.

I placed a couple of scraps of blue paper behind the openings for the eyes, and the with a marker I put the black dots inside of the eyes.  For an extra little touch I added a gold flower embellishment from Little B next to the pigs ear.

We have all seen the posts on Pinterest for the Candy Corn Wine bottles.  I dont drink wine, but as soon as I mentioned that this was a crafting idea I wanted to try, my sisters were more than happy to help me out by supplying the empty bottles.

First off, I have to admit . . . I am not a painter!  Yes, I know that this project uses spray paint and not a brush/canvas/paint . . . but I still thought "there is a chance I could totally screw this up".  More on that later.

To start with, I cleaned the bottles.  I soaked them in water with some vinegar and most of the labels peeled right off, but for some of the more stubborn ones I used Goo Gone.  I had the bottles on a towel and would pour a little on the bottle and let it sit.  Then with a little elbow grease, the residue came off.

Also, make sure to cut off any metal that is left from where the cap was sealed onto the bottle.  I used a box cutter to carefully cut through the little rings that were at the top of the bottles and to get them off.

Now that I had clean bottles, I was ready to take them outside to spray.  First coat was going to be to cover them in white.  I wanted to do this, especially for the dark bottles, so that they had a nice consistent background.

I took a box and torn one flap off and that became my spraying area.  (see photo above) This helped so that there was not spray getting all over everything in the backyard.  It also made a nice place to let the bottles sit and dry.

Coat with white.  Let sit to dry.  Go have lunch or do some laundry . . . or take a nap . . . then you can come back for the next step.  You dont want to do the next color too soon or the white will still be wet and you will have drips.

Now it is time to come back and spray the middle section with orange.

There were a couple of times while doing the project that I think I got to excited that it was actually working out and that caused me to not focus as much.  (I shot some orange RIGHT into my perfectly white top, or when I had my hand too close and the orange kind of dripped) but I think now that I feel better about how this first project went I would be willing to try some more . . . and practice makes perfect!

If you over spray the orange like I did, you can come back with the white to cover it . . . but I suggest waiting and coming back later to do this . . . I did not, so I have one bottle where the white is now dripping into the orange so then I tried to save it by spraying more orange and now that looks weird too.  (see photo below and the bottle on the far left).  I guess when I set these out, I will turn that bottle so the drip is in the back, or since I had four other bottles that turned out good I could just not use the drippy one.

Let this dry . . . again, go take a nap or work on some other project.

Now for the yellow.  Since I did not want to overshoot the yellow into the orange, and I wanted to be sure I got the bottoms of the bottles, I held each bottle and sprayed down into the box.  This did mean I had to take my time a little more since I could not set the bottle down right away, but I think it was the best way to be sure that I did not cover too much of the orange.  (sorry . . . no photo . . . I could not hold the spray paint, the bottle and take a picture so you will have to use your imagination)

After the yellow was done I let them all sit in the box for a while and then I moved them into the garage to dry overnight.  I set them on the flap of the box that I torn off, and I actually decided to keep the box in case I decide to do another spray paint project again.

And here are the finished bottles  . . .

I think (except for the one that got drippy, which I ended up tossing out) they turned out cute! (the drippy one is on the far left)  So one bad one out of 5 isnt too bad . . . lets just get rid of that one drippy one . . .

I put a couple on our front entry table with a scented candle that has rhinestones on the jar, and I brought a couple into work to decorate my desk.  Here are how the ones in the front entry look . . .

I would say this is a Pinterest inspired project that was a success!  If any of my friends or family want to empty some more bottles, I would even do this project again to that they can decorate their house with them also.

Happy Crafting!
