Richard Garay at CHA

Todays post is about a designers whos booth I have never had the opportunity to see before this year at CHA.  I am normally behind a booth working, and I dont normally get time to go out and explore . . . but this year I am so glad I was able to spend some time at the Richard Garay booth!

I love the big thick fonts on the sentiment stamps from his line!  If you are going to say something, make a statement!  Let your message be seen!

  

I think that the Lumberjack Days collection was my favorite.  Maybe because I am a Northern girl, some of the patterned papers reminded me of quilts.

Isnt the little pocket cute!  My first thought was to use this for giving a gift card.  The stitching on the pocket is stamped on, and there are two different stitching variations you can choose from with this set.

I am in LOVE with the sweater embossing folder that was used for the background on this next card.  Look at the beautiful pattern it gives the white paper.

I am also a fan of the bright colors in this collection.

CHA Hot New Products iloom

iloom by Wooky Entertainment, is the next generation of bracelet making, which turns ideas into finished accessories by pairing an iPad with an innovative device and app.


 

This product took me back to the days of when my daughter was much younger and wanted to create bracelets for herself and her friends.  I was able to show her some basic patterns, but with this tool she could have easily followed along to make some of the more elaborate patterns she wanted to create.

Woven Heart with Sizzix and Marisa Pawelko

I love it when you have a crafting tool that was made for one use, but you can find a second use for it. That is exactly what I am going to show you with todays project.

The idea for this project all started when I saw a woven paper heart project for Valentines day.  The base cut for the project reminded me of the woven bracelet shape from Marisa Pawelkos die with Sizzix.

I started off by cutting the bracelet shape out of two different shades of pink paper.  You can use the row of dots that are also cut with this die for another project since we will not need them for this.

Next I cut both of the bracelet pieces in half as shown below.

Then I start to weave one into the other, just like those woven place mats we have all made out of paper back in grade school.

Tighten things up and shift the pieces so that there are no gaps.  Turn them on an angle so that the rounded portion is at the top . . . do you see the heart now?

The last step is to simply secure the pieces with a little adhesive so that they stay nice and flat, and then trim off the excess.  Now you have two little woven hearts!

Since this die cut is intended for making a bracelet, there are small holes at the top of the heart.  You could use those to thread some ribbon through and tie these hearts onto a card or other crafting project.  If you sealed these so that the paper would not tear you might even be able to make a necklace.

Follow the Fun at CHA The Craft and Hobby Association Trade Show!

I cannot believe I just set my alarm . . . FOR 4:00 AM!!!!!!  Yes, that is what time I need to get up so I can get to the airport in time for my flight to California.

I am hoping that I will be able to take a lot of photos and maybe even some video and post them here for everyone to see.  This is the master plan, but if I am too tired or the wireless connection at the hotel is not working for me then posting will have to wait until I get home.  I am not going to stress about it . . . just enjoy the crafting, glitter and sparkles!

See You at CHA Blog Hop

Welcome to the See You at CHA Blog Hop

This year I am really looking forward to getting out of the booth and getting to see the show, demos and make n take projects.  Normally I am in The Buckle Boutiques booth from the time the doors open and by the time my day is done all I can think about is getting something to eat, relaxing a little and then getting to bed so I can be ready for the next day.  The closest I ever got to "seeing the show" was the year my daughter attended and I was able to see the show through her eye via her photos and videos.  

This year, since The Buckle Boutique will not be having a booth so I plan to really take in as much as I can.  My project for today includes products from launched at past shows from several different companies.

I started with the Lawn Fawn stamps, and cut shapes from some mustard yellow cardstock and then stamped the images with brown ink.  I like to do 2 or 3 images at once so that I will have the others ready for future projects.

I am using a kraft colored card for the base, and decided to use a safari print paper from Bo Bunny and layered it with orange cardstock.  Since I knew I would want to layer the stamped image on the same color of paper, I cut circles out of the center of the piece I was going to use for the layers of the background.  This is a great way to use the same color, but not waste as much paper . . . no one will ever see these circles since they will be covered by the patterned paper.

Now you can see how the circle were hidden by the patterned paper.  You can also see a problem I ran into . . . I was distracted by something and did not cut my layered pieces the right size.  See how they are bigger than the card.  No problem!  I just call this an Opportunity for Embellishment.  

I simply cut the entire piece into two pieces . . . 

Then I attached one piece to the card base . . .

Then I attached the second piece to the card base slightly overlapping the pieces to make a seam.  Now the layered pieces have the proper border spacing around the outside edge and look like they were cut the correct size to start with, when really there is a seam where they overlap. 

Here is a closer view of the seam.  Now, I could have just left it like this.  The seam is not really obvious due to the type of pattern on the paper, but I wanted to totally hide the seam.

I used some black rhinestone sticker sheets from The Buckle Boutique and cut it to the size of the card.

Thats right . . . just cut this sheet to whatever size you need.  I like to use my Westscott non-stick scissors when cutting the rhinestone sticker sheets.  Since the sticker sheets have adhesive on the back the Westscott non-stick scissors work the best so that you dont end up with "gunk" on your scissors from the adhesive.

After I cut the piece to the right size I removed the backing from the sticker sheet to expose the adhesive and attached it to the card.  I love the sparkle, but also how quick and easy these sticker sheets are to use!  Can you imagine how much time it would take to line up individual rhinestones like this and stick them on to the card? 

Last but not least, I added the circle with the lion I colored in with my Spectrum Noir markers.  I also stamped a circular stitching line around the outside edge of the circle.

And here is the finished card.  I plan to use this for my nephews birthday.

As a crafter, I am always looking for products that will work with and complement other products I already own.  Just like with this card, CHA is a time to explore the products that all of the companies have to offer and then find ways to have them complement each other.

Disney Products at CHA

THIS is a post I did not know I would be making when I started off to the Craft and Hobby Association Trade Show (CHA) this year . . . a collection of all of the things I saw on the show floor that made me think of Disney!

The first thing I saw that made me think of Disney were these Alice In Wonderland cardstock sheets that you can color in, from Marion Smith.

This next photo is of a project that was on display at the Heartfelt Creations booth.  I liked how they used all of these different elements, along with the phrase "You Can Fly" and a picture of a boy in a Peter Pan hat.

Even though the paper and elements are not truly Disney items, it still gives the feel of Disney because of the phrase.

Here is a cute little Mickey Mouse shaker card I found in the Cheery Lynn Designs booth.  One great thing about Mickey is that you dont really need a special die to create him . . . three circles is all you need.
